"5-96 - Ask The Gunsmith on STI Durability"
Ed Brown - Pg 40

I like the weight reduction aspects of the polymer used to construct STI pistols, and I know they are extremely popular with competition shooters. But I have not been able to find much information concerning the durability of the frames. What can you tell me about how well the polymer will stand up to day-to-day use?

The manufacturer of the firearms would be far better than I to comment on their durability. I have owned a few in the past, but have done no extensive durability testing on them. We all know that any plastic will mar much easier than steel.

At one time they suggested not firing the gun while wearing a ring. This of course is only cosmetic and has nothing to do with their durability or reliability during ordinary firing. I suggest you contact STI directly to resolve any durability questions.

Pro shooters, who demand durability and reliability, favor the STI frame.
