John Nowlin, Sr.’s passion for pistols began while serving as an armorer in the Air Force, where he had plenty of time to experiment with the 1911 semi-auto. More than a decade after he left the service in 1966, he became a pistolsmith, After establishing himself as an IPSC shooter, he began manufacturing match barrels. Nowlin’s big break cam in 1988 when the gun industry aced a barrel shortage, leaving big manufactures like Bar-Sto and Wilson scrambling to meet the growing demand. Springfield Armory started using Nowlin barrels as did Rob Leatham and other top shooters. Nowlin barrels gained the reputation of achieving shot groups of less than half and inch at 25 yards. Nowlin’s guns are not only accurate and handsome- they’re known for unparalleled performance. Just ask Jethro “The Jet” Dioniso. He won the Steel Challenge and the World Shoot-Off Championship with a Nowlin steel gun. |
