CHOOSING A RecoilMaster

Each of the RecoilMaster models is designed for a unique stroke and slide mass. They are not necessarily interchangeable with guns of other manufacture with the exceptions being 1911 models which adhere to the design and dimensions as prescribed by the John Browning design. Weapons with stroke and slide configuration, which do not match this criteria, are special due to slide configuration and stroke limitations. That is to say a 3.9 and 4.15 Recoil systems will not function on a Colt Officers model or other models of manufacture which are 'short stroked' weapons.

FACTS AS DISCOVERED IN TESTING

  1. The RecoilMaster is not caliber or power factor specific with the exception of the 9mm. All 9mm systems must use the light system.
  2. The differences between light and heavy will be influenced by shooter perception.
  3. Concerns over slide to frame damage have proven to be unfounded when using STI frames and due to the unique ability of the guide rod cap and spring tube to absorb wear. This is due to our hardness specification and may be a deciding factor for other frames manufactured which do not meet our hardness criteria. In this case, users should use the heavy system.
  4. The RecoilMaster is designed to last at least 10 times the service life of a conventional recoil assembly without damage or weakening of the system.

TYPICAL USAGES and RECOMMENDATIONS

  1. Guns other than 9mm with unmodified Unique or Classic slides should use the heavy system.
  2. Guns with 'tight' slides or new guns not fully broken-in should use the heavy assembly
  3. Guns with lightened slides use the light system. All 9mm weapons should use the light system. This applies to all lengths of RecoilMasters.
  4. All Open guns should use the light system.

These recommendations reflect our conclusions formed after extensive testing. Individual shooters will have varying preference due to shooting style and variations in individual guns, especially guns not manufactured by STI International.

ADVANTAGES TO THE SHOOTER

  1. This system gives the shooter more consistent performance due to the design life of system.
  2. Due to advanced computer modeling, the system brings the gun back to point of aim more quickly than convention recoil assemblies.
  3. Due to proprietary design characteristics the chambering of rounds is more forgiving of feed lip designs due to its' "Soft Touch" chambering.
